Vajgrt Labs · Design options

Design choices, in plain sight.

Every website we build is custom — but the choices follow a pattern. These are the colors, type, navigation, buttons and shapes we reach for, rendered live on this page instead of described in a brochure.

Nothing below is a screenshot. Every swatch, menu bar and button is the real thing, working in your browser. At the bottom there's a sample business site you can re-skin yourself — pick a palette, a menu style, a button shape, and watch it change.

Choice 1 · Color

Palettes with a point of view

Color is the first thing a visitor feels. Each palette below is a full set — background, ink, and accents that work together — with the kind of business it tends to flatter.

Prairie Harvest

Cream #FAF3E3 · Ink #3E2F1C · Amber #C07A1E · Walnut #6B4226

Warm and trustworthy — bakeries, diners, farm stands, home services.

Riverstone Trust

Clean and steady — trades, clinics, accountants, professional services.

Ember & Oak

Char #1C1714 · Cream #F3E9DC · Flame #E4572E · Smoke #8A7A6A

Dark and appetizing — BBQ, breweries, steakhouses, coffee roasters.

Sage Meadow

Pale #F2F5EC · Ink #2E4023 · Sage #5B7553 · Sprout #A8C686

Calm and fresh — salons, wellness, florists, landscapers.

Midnight Cinema

Night #0E0E1A · Silver #F5F0E6 · Gold #E3B505 · Curtain #8E2A32

Dramatic and electric — theaters, venues, nightlife, entertainment.

Berry Sorbet

Bright and friendly — ice cream, boutiques, bakeries, gifts.

Charcoal & Copper

Coal #17181C · Bone #EDEAE4 · Copper #C87F4A · Ash #6E6A61

Sharp and premium — barbers, tattoo, jewelers, high-end retail.

Easy and open — rentals, marinas, real estate, lake-country anything.

Newsprint

Paper #FBFAF7 · Ink #111111 · Red #B91C1C · Gray #6B7280

Bold and direct — pizza, auto shops, any business that talks straight.

Choice 2 · Type

Type pairings, set at real size

A headline face with a personality, a body face that stays readable. These are the combinations — shown the way they'd actually appear on your site.

Playfair Display + Inter

Dinner, done properly.

Elegant serif headlines over a clean modern sans. Restaurants, boutiques, and anywhere a little ceremony helps.

Oswald + Inter

BUILT TO LAST OUTDOORS

Tall, confident condensed headlines. Trades, gyms, and shops that want to sound like they mean it.

Lora + Montserrat

A calmer kind of care

A warm book serif with a friendly geometric sans. Clinics, counselors, wellness, family services.

Space Grotesk + Inter

Now showing, nightly

Technical, slightly futuristic headlines. Entertainment, tech services, and modern retail.

Montserrat + Inter

Homes that fit your life

Rounded geometric headlines that read friendly at any size. Real estate, schools, community services.

Playfair Display + Lora

The Sunday edition

All-serif editorial pairing, headlines and body both. Writers, galleries, and story-led brands.

Choice 3 · Navigation

Five ways to run the top of the page

The menu bar is the first thing visitors use. Same fictional hardware store, five different tops — hover the links; they're live.

Classic top bar — logo left, links right, call button at the end

Centered logo — the name sits in the middle, links split around it

Split bar — a utility strip on top (hours, phone), the menu beneath

Minimal — text only, no buttons, nothing between the reader and the page

Bold band — a full-color bar that makes the menu part of the brand

Choice 4 · Buttons

Buttons in three shapes

Four jobs a button can do — say it loud (primary), offer the alternative (secondary), suggest quietly (outline), or stay out of the way (ghost). Each in sharp, soft, and pill shapes. Hover them.

Choice 5 · Shape & depth

Same card, six personalities

Corners, borders and shadows look like small choices. Together they're most of what makes a site feel crisp, soft, formal, or friendly.

Sharp · flat

Tool rental

Crisp edges, no border, no shadow. Modern and direct.

Soft · bordered

Tool rental

Gently rounded, a hairline frame. The dependable default.

Round · shadowed

Tool rental

Big radius and a lifted shadow. Friendly, a little playful.

Sharp · bordered

Tool rental

Square corners with a strong frame. Formal, editorial.

Soft · shadowed

Tool rental

Rounded corners floating on a soft shadow. Clean and current.

Round · framed

Tool rental

A double-frame treatment inside the card. Crafted, deliberate.

Choice 6 · The hero

Four ways to open the page

The hero is the first screen a visitor sees — your name, your promise, and one button. Four honest ways to arrange it.

Full-bleed color

EMBER & OAK

Slow-smoked, every day

Twelve hours over oak. Worth every one of them.

Split — words left, picture right

A clinic that listens first

Same-week appointments, plain-language answers, no rush.

Choice 7 · Layout

How the middle of the page flows

Services can march in a grid, trade places down the page, or let customers do the talking. And every site ends with a footer — simple, or with room to spare.

Card grid — services side by side, scan fast

Repairs

Small-engine and tool repair, most done in-house within the week.

Rentals

Scaffolding, tillers, floor sanders — by the day or the weekend.

Delivery

Building materials dropped at your site, anywhere in the county.

Alternating rows — one idea at a time, room to breathe

Paint that matches, finally

Bring a chip of the old color. Our scanner reads it and the mixer does the rest — no more almost-right walls.

Contractor desk, real advice

The back counter is staffed by people who have framed houses, not just sold lumber. Bring the sketch.

Testimonial-led — a big quote, then the receipts

"They had the part, the tool to install it, and the patience to explain it. Twice."

— Sample quote, shown the way a real one would appear

"Open early. That's the whole review."— sample

"Matched paint from a 40-year-old chip."— sample

"The rental sander saved our floors."— sample

Footer, simple — centered, quiet, done

Choice 8 · Imagery

How pictures carry the page

The same little scene — a meadow at golden hour, drawn here in pure CSS — presented four ways. Real sites use your photos; the choice is how much of the page they take up.

Full-bleed photo

The picture is the page top — headline sits on it.

Photo-led, full-bleed. Boldest option. Works when you have one great shot.

Framed photo

The picture sits inside the layout, content around it.

Framed photo. Calmer, more editorial. The safe classic.

Illustration-led

Illustration / graphic-led. Drawn shapes instead of photos — friendly, and never out of date.

No picture.
Just the words, set big.

Type-led. When the name and the promise are strong enough to carry it alone.

Choice 9 · Spacing

How busy should it feel?

Identical content, two densities. Roomy reads calm and premium; compact reads efficient and information-first. Neither is wrong — it's a personality choice.

Roomy & calm

Weekend tool rental

Pick it up Friday, bring it back Monday. One flat weekend rate, no hourly clock ticking while you work.

Sanders · Tillers · Scaffolding · Ladders

From $39 / weekend

Compact & dense

Choice 10 · Motion

Movement, dialed to taste

Motion can be turned off entirely, kept to a whisper, or given a little play. All three boxes below are live — hover the middle one, watch the third. (Your browser's reduced-motion setting is respected either way.)

Sale ends Friday

Completely still. Nothing moves. The fastest, calmest option — plenty of professional sites choose this.

Sale ends Friday

Subtle. A soft lift and fade when a visitor hovers or taps. Guidance, not decoration.

Sale ends Friday

Playful. A gentle bounce that earns a second look — right for sales, events, and kid-friendly businesses.

Choice 11 · Icons

Little pictures, or none

The same three selling points, three ways: outlined icons, solid icons, or words alone. Icons help scanning; type alone can look sharper.

Line icons — light, modern, airy

Same-week service

Most jobs booked and done inside five days.

Warrantied work

Every job backed in writing for a full year.

Up-front prices

The quote is the price. No surprises at the till.

Filled icons — bold, confident, high-contrast

Choice 12 · Proof

How your good name gets shown

Reviews and numbers persuade — the question is presentation. All the words and figures below are samples, shown the way your real ones would appear.

Choice 13 · The ask

Where the "call us" lives

Every site asks for something — a call, a booking, a quote. Where the ask sits changes how often it gets answered.

In the header — always one glance away

Sticky bottom bar — follows the scroll on phones (shown inside this frame)

…the rest of the page scrolls…

…and the bar stays put…

Choice 14 · Mood

Light, dark, or both

The same block in three moods. Mixed — a light page with dark sections for emphasis — is how most of our builds land.

Light & airy

Open house, Saturday 10–2

Bright backgrounds, lots of breathing room. Friendly, daytime, welcoming.

Dark & bold

Open house, Saturday 10–2

Deep backgrounds, high contrast. Evening energy, premium feel, drama.

Mixed

Open house, Saturday 10–2

A light page overall, with dark bands where something matters. Like this strip, the contrast does the pointing.

Choice 15 · Backgrounds

What's behind the words

One headline, four backdrops. Backgrounds set the temperature of a section before a single word is read.

Flat color

Choice 16 · Forms

The contact form, three ways

Short forms get filled in. The layout is a real choice: stacked and simple, two-column and compact, or floating labels for a modern feel. These are samples — typing in them goes nowhere.
